SPC (stone-polymer composite) rigid-core flooring sits above laminate and below engineered wood on price. Its appeal in India is practical: a core with no wood fibre, a click joint that floats over a flat subfloor, and — often — no need to break existing tiles. Here are the market ranges we found in October 2026, what makes one SPC plank cost twice another, and how to compare quotes. These are market ranges, not our prices.

The wear layer is the clear top film that takes the traffic. 0.3 mm is common in entry ranges; 0.5 mm and above is the safer choice for busy homes, pets and light commercial use. Marketplace listings rarely say whether GST is included — ask.

Most SPC planks come with an attached underlay, so a second underlay is usually not needed — and many manufacturers forbid one. Follow the product’s own installation guide.
Material-only vs installed price
Supplied and fitted — planks, labour and sundries — SPC typically lands at ₹150–280 per sq ft before GST; city rate analyses we checked came out at roughly ₹110–250. For an all-in comparison: one Indian SPC brand publishes an MRP of ₹300 per sq ft including GST, transport and installation for a 4 mm core with a 1 mm attached underlay and a 0.3 mm wear layer. When you compare, put every quote on the same basis — the same thickness and wear layer, and the same things included.

GST on SPC: 18%
SPC and other vinyl floor coverings (HSN 3918) carry GST at 18% under the rates in force since 22 September 2025 (Notification 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate)). Installation is typically taxed at 18% as well. Example: ₹150 per sq ft + 18% GST = ₹177 per sq ft. Confirm the rate on your invoice with your accountant; Vantafloor product pages show prices both with and without GST.
What drives the price
- Wear layer (0.3 / 0.5 / 0.55 mm and up): the biggest single quality factor for durability.
- Core thickness (4, 5, 6 mm and more): thicker cores feel more solid and bridge small dips better.
- Attached underlay (IXPE or EVA foam): adds comfort and some sound reduction.
- Look and format: stone-look tiles, wide or long planks and herringbone cost more than standard 1220 × 181 mm wood-look planks.
- Brand and origin, and what the warranty actually covers.
- Your room: levelling, removing an old floor, door trimming and carrying to upper floors.
How to compare SPC quotes
- Core thickness, wear layer, plank size and attached underlay — written on every quote.
- Water wording you can check: “waterproof core” should come with a test report, and no click floor is a waterproof membrane. See waterproof vs water-resistant.
- The same price basis: per sq ft of floor or supplied, excluding or including 18% GST.
- Material, labour, skirting, profiles and any levelling as separate lines.
- Whether existing tiles stay: if so, the quote should mention the tile checks (flatness, hollow tiles, grout lines, door clearance).
- Warranty terms in writing — years, exclusions and how to claim.
Where SPC makes sense
SPC suits living rooms, bedrooms, kids’ rooms, rentals, ground floors in humid cities and — with care — kitchens.
